Artist Statement

I was born in Southern Oregon, in the United States, at a time when trees covered the land and provided the income for my family.  Trees have provided the inspiration for most of my artwork whether it was oil paints, watercolors, pen and ink, and now pottery.  One can also see a touch of precision informed by my study of physics and mathematics in the more modern looking pieces. Even more so, my background in science is evident in the formulation of my own glazes.

I was introduced to pottery when I met my future husband in 1990 at our 30-year high school class reunion.  Soon I was developing glazes to set off his pottery and dabbling in creating my own artistic pieces.  Starting in 2005, I began showing and selling my own creations.  I introduce a new collection every several years.  My first successful line was the Spring Reeds Series which feature sprigged grasses.  This morphed into a line of modern geometric shapes that stood cubes on a vertex to make a vase.  A workshop with Vince Pitelka turned the cubes back on a side and into boxes with inlaid patterns.  The latest line is the Madrone Grove Series featuring the negative space between madrone tree trunks.
