A New Modern Geometric Structure

Six Modern Geometric pieces later?!

I’m back to work on writing my blog and wishing I was more gregarious.  I had good intentions.  I would write about my process in making some of my pieces.  But clay does not wait for you to write down what you are doing,

First, I made the square box making sure that after the clay shrinks during the firings all the sides will be the same dimensions and all the corners are square.  Then I cut off one of the vertices about 2.5 inches from the point and invert in back in the hole that is left in the cube.  This makes that vertex into a 3 pointed foot and lowers the center of gravity a little. Then I cut off the opposite vertex the same amount for the neck of the vase, I have not had any trouble with balancing the cube since I started making them this way. I made 5 pieces and carved around the necks.

A number of years ago, I saw this picture of a cube with an interesting top that is hard to describe. I’ve tried it a couple of times but wanted to go bigger. First I cut off a vertex and inverting it in the opening like making a foot. Then I do this two more times. The pictures show the greenware piece. It will be important to find a way to glaze it compliment the structure. I’m also making another piece that I can make into a flower brick type vase by cutting holes in the top.
