BACK TO WORK

I’m going to start a new making cycle today. This cycle I will be making Modern Geometric pieces. This series is made with White Salmon clay from Georgies. I roll a large slab of the clay about 12 by 16 inches so I can cut at least 6 squares out of the same slab for the cube. The squares have to be cut going in the same direction to make the walls of the cube. When the clay is rolled the platelets line up in the same direction and then shrink more in that direction when fired. I use a different method than the mitering the clay to assemble the cube. I make the walls about a quarter of an inch shorter than wide and put a bottom and top on the 4 assembled walls. I assemble it with a square. This makes the cube quite a bit more precise than the mitered technique.
