Life is Like Making Pottery

Over the last several months, I have made some more Madrone Grove series vases and I listed them on the website yesterday. They have a slightly different look than the ones I have made in the past and I am not sure I like them. I believe they changed because I ran out of bone ash and bought a new supply. I think the new bone ash caused the glaze sprayer ‘s filter to end up clogged after spraying each piece. So I decided to apply the glaze without using the filter. I am not as good at adjusting the amount of glaze coming out of the sprayer without the filter yet. Some people like the results and some do not. This is one of the hassles of being a potter interested in producing pieces of art. Effects are hard to repeat.

Another interesting experience I had in getting this firing ready for exhibiting on my web page was the photography. I like taking the pictures in natural sunlight. The pictures I took the first day had an orange tint. The pictures on the second day seemed more washed out. The camera was on the same setting both days. Was there enough smoke in the air to change the color of the sunlight. I may try to photograph the pieces again.
